A 2-year-old Alabama girl has a new lease on life thanks to a kidney donation from her 62-year-old grandmother, who was a perfect match. Wryn Graydon of Moody, Alabama, was diagnosed at 2 months old with congenital nephrotic syndrome, a rare kidney disorder that the National Institutes of Health says is caused by genetic defects. Maryam Mirzakhani, first woman to win maths' Fields Medal, dies

Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to receive the prestigious Fields Medal for mathematics, has died in the US. The 40-year-old Iranian, a professor at Stanford University, had breast cancer which had spread to her bones. Nicknamed the “Nobel Prize for Mathematics”, the Fields Medal is only awarded every four years to between two and four mathematicians under 40.
