Fashion goes Dadcore

The 2017 Merriam-Webster word of the year might be “feminism” but in fashion circles, I am pretty sure it’s “Gucci-fication”. The Italian fashion house, under the auspices of Alessandro Michele, has had a stellar couple of years, with everything it touches turning to Gucci gold. Gucci’s pre-fall 2018 collection includes baseball caps and hiking boots. Critical Shopper: Why You Should Love Secondhand Fashion Now

Advertisement The following is a real story about the RealReal, a luxury consignment start-up that now has a brick-and-mortar store in SoHo. A few months ago, a friend walked into an intimate gathering wearing a daisy print Céline skirt. One of our mutual friends said to her, “I saw that on the RealReal.” Another said, “Oh, I’m so happy you were the one who got it.” This is perhaps how billionaires chat after a Sotheby’s auction, which is not the camaraderie and pride one would expect to hear about secondhand…

Company tries to showcase plus-size fashion, fails dramatically

Bargain clothing website, Wish.com seem to not understand women. We say this with love. How else to explain their advertisement for plus-size tights using – assume the brace position – thin women who are stretching the tights out? That’s right. Instead of opting for a plus-size model to show how the stockings might look on another plus-size person, Wish.com instead opted for thin women to show just how roomy the stockings were on them by stretching them up over their heads, or out, beside their thigh. The advertising reads almost like one of those…

Fashion models expose sexual harassment

The fashion industry is failing to deal with the problem of sexual harassment, the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme has been told. In the UK, professional agencies represent about 12,000 models. Here are some of their stories. Marissa “One example I can think of was for a jeans brand. I turned up at the shoot, got the clothes on, got my make-up done, and then the make-up artist then left and I was left with the photographer. “And we did the shoot and I went to the bathroom for a break….
