UK-based low-cost carrier easyJet has confirmed it has appointed former TUI Group deputy chief executive Johan Lundgren as its new chief executive officer. He will replace Carolyn McCall who will step down at the end of the month to lead ITV. Lundgren will join the European budget airline on December 1st. News: easyJet to acquire airberlin operations at Tegel Airport in Berlin

easyJet today signed an agreement with airberlin to acquire part of its operations at Berlin Tegel Airport for a purchase consideration of €40 million. This excludes potential start-up and transitional operating costs. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in December 2017. News: easyJet and Lufthansa circle stricken Alitalia

German flag-carrier Lufthansa has made an offer to buy parts of stricken Italian carrier Alitalia. The aviation giant is joined by easyJet of the UK, which has also put forward its own proposals. Lufthansa said it hoped to establish a New Alitalia, but was only interested in parts of the existing business. easyJet has announced additional partners for its Worldwide by easyJet product, which launched this month. Stand-alone tickets on behalf of four new partner airlines will be on sale by the end of the year. The Italian long-haul airline NEOS is among the new carrier. It serves a wide range of long haul leisure destinations in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Middle East from Italian airports including Milan Malpensa, Rome Fiumicino, Verona and Bologna. Following the airing of the two part ITV documentary, easyJet: Inside the Cockpit, the low-cost carrier has seen a significant increase in interest from budding pilots to its careers website. Visits to its careers page at easyJet.com increased to over 28,500 across both episodes during the two hours in which they were broadcast compared to typical user figures of 7,000 visits for a similar two hour period. easyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall will leave the low-cost carrier to join the board of ITV as chief executive. McCall has led easyJet for seven years. Prior to easyJet, she was group chief executive at the Guardian Media Group.
