Every game Manchester City have played against Liverpool at Anfield since 2003… and failed to win

Friday, January 12, 2018

Manchester City have spent almost 15 years waiting to win a Premier League match at Anfield, but they could end that run this weekend.

Liverpool host the runaway league leaders on Sunday afternoon, hoping to continue their excellent record against the Citizens and become the first team to win a domestic match against Pep Guardiola’s side in 2017-18.

City last claimed victory at Anfield in May 2003, securing a 2-1 win thanks to former Liverpool striker Nicolas Anelka’s late brace.

Milan Baros fired the Reds into the lead just before the hour mark, but Anelka levelled the tie from the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining. Then as the game passed into injury time, the Frenchman struck a fine volley to secure all three points.

That was City’s first Anfield win in 22 years, and it dealt a major blow to Liverpool’s Champions League hopes; hopes that were extinguished the following week when Jesper Gronkjaer scored that goal to secure that victory for Chelsea on the final day of the 2002-03 Premier League campaign.

Since then, Liverpool have dominated the Citizens at Anfield, and you can see the full run of matches by clicking the right arrow, above…
